Museum Visit

We had a great visit to the museum today!  We took part in the 'Early Settlers Schooling and Games' exhibition.

We got to dress up in olden day clothes, play games and see what it was like to go to school then.  We were taught some rhymes and a little dance.

We had lots of fun!Thank you very much to the parents who came along with us!

Look at us in our dress ups!

Look at how much fun we had!

Havelock North Primary

Wow look at this photo of our school when it first opened!

150 Years Ago - What Was School Like?

To begin our new theme Miss Hill glued some photos on big pieces of paper.  In groups we brainstormed what we already know and wrote questions about the photos.

We then tried a new way brainstorm our ideas.  Miss Hill created a 'Google Document' and put a photo of an olden day classroom.  We worked together in groups on the computers.  A 'Google Document' meant we could all type on the same document at the same time!  It was very confusing to begin with but we got the hang of it!

Broken Window

We came to school on Monday morning to find some naughty people had broken our window!
We watched the man come and fix our window.  We found this very interesting!

The School Cat

Look who came to visit us on Friday!

We were busy with our Knowledge Ladder Testing and we had a visitor!
He likes to pop in and see us every now and then.  We are always very excited when Caro comes and visits us.

Some of us decided to write about Caro and his visit:

Me Bags

'Me Bags' Oral Presentations

Our homework challenge for Week 3 was to create a 'Me Bag' of ourselves. We had to find 5 items at home that helped describe ourselves. We presented these to our class.

This was a great way to introduce ourselves and learn more about each other.

Here are some photos of us presenting our 'Me Bags':

Green Thinking Hat

We are learning about De Bono's 6 Thinking Hats
The 6 Thinking Hats help us think in new and different ways.

The Green Thinking Hat = Creativity
What new ideas are possible?

Oops Miss Hill dropped a splot of paint! Because we like to recycle and reuse Miss Hill asked us to create a picture using that paint splot. We did one on Thursday and because we look at different possibilities with the Green Hat, we did it again on Friday! Miss Hill was very impressed with all our different drawings and what we created.
Here is what we created:

Working in Groups

We are learning to work with other children in groups. In literacy we are writing about the beach. In our groups we wrote a list of nouns of things we found at the beach.

To successfully work in a group we need to:
help each other if we need it
share ideas
listen to each other
stay focused on what you are meant to be doing

Here are some photos of us working in groups. As a class we reflected on how we went to day:

We went well today. We listened to each others ideas. We got lots of ideas. We helped each other.

We had a few problems. We did not always listen to ideas and we were not paying attention the whole time.
We stopped and told each other we needed to focus. We then worked together well and completed our work.

We went well. We had a lot of ideas. We worked together to help each other with spelling.

We went well. We came up with good ideas together. When one person came up with an idea we talked about it and decided together. We listened to each other.

Our group went well. We listened to each others ideas. When two people said an idea we decided together.

We all worked together in a good way. We all shared good ideas. We helped each other with spelling and words.
