Term 3

Welcome to Term 3!

We start the term with a countdown to the Olympic Games.

We have looked at some very interesting websites about the Olympics.  We were very interested in the types of sports included!  

If you scroll down, on the right side of the page, you will find a Symbaloo with links to lots of websites about the Olympics.

Special Item Presentation

We did a lot of background work for our special items:

• We found an item that is special and treasured by our families.
• We asked our family about it and why it is special to our family.
• We brought our item or photos of our item to school.
• In class we learnt how to write an explanation for it.

Miss Hill then asked us:

"How will you now share all of this information with our class?"

We had a class brainstorm and posters and powerpoint presentations seemed to be favourite options!

We will be spending our class time putting our presentations together. 

 Have a look at the video of us working on our presentations today.  
We are teaching each other new ideas. 
 We are helping each other with our typing and spelling. 
 Some of us are working on our own.  
Some of us are working on our own but checking in with a buddy every now and then.

Keep a look out for our finished presentations in the next couple of weeks!

Omni-Gym

We had our second visit to the Omni-Gym today.

We built on the skills we used last week.

We are very proud of ourselves because we are taking risks and trying something new.

We loved our first session to the Omni-Gym today!

Some of us were quite nervous about it because we had not done anything like this before.  But once we got there and gave it a go we really enjoyed it!

We can't wait for next week!

Autumn Writing

We are starting our term with a writing focus on Autumn.

We are learning how to use our 'Writers Notebooks' to jot our ideas and write our observations to help us with our writing.

We took our notebooks outside and enjoyed the Autumn morning.  It was beautiful!

Of course we played in the leaves first!!

Term 2

Welcome to Term 2!

Miss Hill missed all your smiley faces over the holidays.  I am looking forward to another fun and busy term!

Museum Visit

We had a great visit to the museum today!  We took part in the 'Early Settlers Schooling and Games' exhibition.

We got to dress up in olden day clothes, play games and see what it was like to go to school then.  We were taught some rhymes and a little dance.

We had lots of fun!Thank you very much to the parents who came along with us!

150 Years Ago - What Was School Like?

To begin our new theme Miss Hill glued some photos on big pieces of paper.  In groups we brainstormed what we already know and wrote questions about the photos.

We then tried a new way brainstorm our ideas.  Miss Hill created a 'Google Document' and put a photo of an olden day classroom.  We worked together in groups on the computers.  A 'Google Document' meant we could all type on the same document at the same time!  It was very confusing to begin with but we got the hang of it!

Kahurangi Dance Group Workshops

After watching the amazing performance by the Kahurangi Dance Group, we participated in workshops where we learnt traditional Maori games.
